This lovely rug has a faded diamond medallion on a salmon field. Over a salmon field, a faded diamond medallion sits at the center, worked in teal and cream with small pendants above and below. Graceful teal and cream corner pieces curl inward from the four corners. A narrow teal border frames the rug, with delicate cream edging along its inner side. The pile is worn low across the face, and the foundation shows through in the open salmon areas. Every color has gone through a full antique wash and none holds its strength. It is a ground of salmon and teal for a room that needs softness. At 4'9" by 7'11", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
Manisa, Gordes, Demirci and Kula were among the carpet towns of western Anatolia where the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers had set up agencies by April 1909. Since 1997 the hand-woven carpets of Gordes, a district of Manisa, have carried a protected geographical mark. Manisa lies inland from the Aegean coast, and its weaving draws on both Anatolian village work and western workshop floral drawing. This rug keeps a central diamond shape and curling corner forms. The wash leaves the drawing readable but muted against the salmon ground.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
