This lovely rug has scrolling vines and paisley forms in gray and brown. Over a cream field, charming scrolling vines and paisley forms in gray and brown spread outward from a lobed central figure. Short pendants reach toward the top and bottom, and larger paisley shapes gather along the long sides. Small rust rosettes and tendrils appear among the vines, and a handsome lobed medallion outline holds the center. Pile has thinned in a few spots, and an antique wash of light strength softened the colors and spared the drawing. Gray and brown tones blend into the cream. At 5'2" by 8'2", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
A single agency in Isparta had about 25,294 square meters of carpet woven in homes in the first half of 1911, the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. The carpets of Isparta, known as “Isparta quality,” were famous in the early years of the Turkish Republic. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette is softer and chalkier, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. Here gray and brown vines drift over the cream ground rather than pressing down on it.

Full care guideReturns

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
