A pale green frame and a camel center make this a lovely rug. A pale green frame surrounds a camel center on this field, scattered with charming floral sprays in soft green, gray and brown. The handsome cream medallion is an oval of scrolling stems with a small green rosette at its core, and a pendant of sprays above and another below. Floral clusters in soft green, gray and cream fill the four corners of the field. The main border is dark brown, filled with a dense scatter of cream dots and small green leaves. Pale specks across the camel center show where the weave comes through the thinned pile. The soft green lightens the brown border and gives the rug a gentle presence. At 5'6" by 9'1", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In the first half of 1911 the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers was in Isparta, where a single agency had about 25,294 square meters woven in homes. Under the name “Isparta quality” the carpets of Isparta were famous in the early years of the Turkish Republic. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. Here the calm comes from a centered medallion with floral sprays set around it. Pale green and camel hold the field, and the brown border frames both.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
