Blue and ivory blossoms drift around a lobed ivory medallion on this lovely rug. Over a rust field, delicate scattered sprays of blue and ivory blossoms drift around a central figure. The medallion is a lobed ivory shape with a rust core, sending lobed pendants up and down the length of the rug. The beautiful main border runs ivory with a scroll of rust and blue palmettes, edged by thin bands of small geometric motifs. Wear shows near the center where the pile thins, yet the drawing stays clear. The dense drawing keeps the rust and blue balanced in a small space. At 3'8" by 6'8", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
Isparta was one of only five places where the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers, the big carpet exporter of the day, had workshops of its own in 1909. A single agency in Isparta had about 25,294 square meters of carpet woven in homes in the first half of 1911, the busiest agent of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. Because they are town rugs rather than tribal ones, these pieces keep an orderly drawing across the field. This rug follows that structured layout with a central medallion and a scrolling border. The rust ground and blue sprays hold a muted tone.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
