A column of square panels makes this a charming runner. Across a burgundy field, three square panels repeat down the length, each holding a cream cross motif at its center. No single medallion dominates, only this column of framed geometric figures. The pattern reaches the edges without corner spandrels. A handsome deep red main border carries near-black angular marks, edged by a narrow guard stripe with a cream zigzag line. The pile is worn low across much of the field, and the foundation shows in places. It anchors a tight hallway, letting the deep red and near-black drawing stay subdued. At 3'3" by 6'9", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Baluch rugs
A 19th-century rug at Colgate University, attributed to the Bahlul tribal group, repeats diagonal rows of a motif typical of Baluch grain bags. A Baluch bride and her mother wove the balisht, a pillow or grain bag that was often part of the dowry, and such bags were usually woven in pairs. Baluch weaving comes from the semi-nomadic groups of eastern Persia and western Afghanistan. The formats are small because the looms were portable. This piece keeps that scale, with square panels stepping down its length. Burgundy and near-black dominate the surface.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
