Each of the four cream corners of this charming rug carries a large boteh. The deep red field holds a large central medallion of dark plum and teal, with a dainty rosette at its core and pendants reaching toward the top and bottom. Cream spandrels fill the four corners, each carrying a large boteh and scattered flower heads in blue and brown. The main border is a dark plum, set with a delicate vine of palmettes and leaves in cream, teal and rust. Narrow guard stripes in cream and blue run along both edges of the border. The pile is worn low across the red field, and the weave shows through in patches. It holds a sitting area together, the cream corners lifting the weight of the red. At 6'3" by 9'7", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
