The rows of small navy and blue boteh are a delightful detail. On a burgundy field, rows of small navy and blue boteh repeat in a tight grid. No central medallion interrupts the grid; the curved teardrops fill the space from edge to edge. The pattern runs straight to the border with no corner pieces. A beautiful cream main border carries small stylized figures between thin bands of red and navy. Several narrow stripes in navy, steel blue and tan run beside it on both sides. The pile looks even and full throughout, and the burgundy runs a shade darker toward the top. The dense drawing holds the burgundy and navy in an even balance. At 8' by 11', it fits a dining table for six with the chairs pulled out, or a full living room seating group.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Botteh rugs
Mughal emperors promoted and exported textiles decorated with the boteh, which were much appreciated in Europe. In termeh, a luxurious woven cloth of Persia, the boteh was the most common design. Not a place but a motif, botteh is the teardrop with the bent tip that Europe later borrowed and called paisley. The boteh is the organizing figure of rugs cataloged this way, repeated across the field in rows. It appears everywhere from the tribal south to the city workshops of the center. Here the boteh fill a plain burgundy field in even rows with no medallion, and the cream border band carries small stylized figures.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
