1841 · 7'3" x 11'5" Persian Kashan Oversized Rug

A lovely near-black medallion, scrolled over with cream vines, anchors the middle. Small blossom sprays in pink, steel blue and gold scatter around the central medallion across the burgundy field. A near-black medallion anchors the middle, scrolled over with cream vines and ending in a pendant at the top and the bottom. The four corners are closed by gorgeous near-black spandrels worked in delicate cream vine scrolls, palmettes and small blossoms. Around the whole rug runs a wide navy border, carrying cream vine scrolls with red palmettes and rosettes. Inside it runs a narrow blue band of red and cream motifs, and cream guard stripes with small red dots edge both sides. The pile has thinned across the whole red field, leaving pale specks of foundation. It holds a room together, and the narrow blue band and the navy border cool the burgundy field. At 7'3" by 11'5", it fits a dining table for four with the chairs pulled out, or a living room with the sofa and chairs fully on it.
