A lattice of small diamonds surrounds stylized trees on this delightful rug. Worked on a rust ground, a lattice of small cream and gold diamonds surrounds stylized trees. A gorgeous central stepped medallion holds a navy field with cream hooks and a small gray hexagon at its core. The main border is navy, carrying large geometric figures in rust, gold and cream. The pile is full across the face and in the border. In a corner, the warm rust ground and bright gold accents hold their own. At 2'2" by 2'1", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Shiraz rugs
The Qashqai tribal confederacy was formed in the late 18th century, during or just after the rule of Karim Khan Zand in Shiraz. The Qashqai have the reputation of making the best rugs of the Shiraz district, the brightest in color, with rich blues and reds. Shiraz is the market city of Fars province in southern Persia, and rugs sold under its name were woven by the tribal and village weavers of the surrounding country. The drawing is geometric and often asymmetric, and small stylized animals and birds turn up in the field. This rug keeps that geometric drawing in its stepped central shape and the diamond lattice filling the ground. The tree forms stand out against the rust, framed by the dark navy border.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
