This lovely rug has a cream diamond medallion on a slate blue field. At the center, a cream diamond medallion with a rose and terracotta surround sits on a slate blue field filled with pretty scrolling vines and small blossoms. Gorgeous corner pieces curve into the field, with leaves that echo the central shape. A wide cream border carries gray beige and terracotta motifs, framed by narrow guard stripes. A light antique wash left the drawing sharp while easing the colors. A few patches run low down the center. Dense drawing keeps the soft blue and terracotta evenly matched. At 5'5" by 8'6", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In the first half of 1911 the company workshop in Isparta wove about 12,318 square meters of carpet, more than any other workshop of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. In its day the Isparta Carpet Palace was the largest carpet exchange in Turkey. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing. The slate blue ground stays soft against the cream border, and the terracotta warms the cool field without disrupting the tone.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
