A lovely ivory diamond medallion sits in the middle of the muted pink field. The muted pink field holds scattered floral sprays in sage, gray brown and cream around a central shape. An ivory diamond medallion sits in the middle, filled with small rosettes and outlined in fine brown vine. Golden ochre corner pieces, edged in sage green, carry dense clusters of charming blossoms that mirror the medallion. The main border runs gray beige, set with a delicate scrolling vine of leaves and flower heads in brown and green. Narrow dark brown guard stripes frame the wide band. The pile runs low across much of the field, and pale patches show where the weave sits thin. The soft rose and sage tones keep the drawing subdued. At 5'5" by 8'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
In the first half of 1911 the company workshop in Isparta wove about 12,318 square meters of carpet, more than any other workshop of the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers. In its day the Isparta Carpet Palace was the largest carpet exchange in Turkey. Isparta sits in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, and its workshops spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette is softer and chalkier, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs rather than tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This rug keeps that orderly floral drawing and the soft rose ground.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
