About this rug

A lovely lobed diamond medallion with a floral core holds the center. The muted pink field holds a large central design in steel blue and cream. A lobed diamond medallion sits at the center with a floral core, joined by smaller pendant medallions above and below. Cream scrolling pieces with charming floral vines occupy each corner. A broad cream band of flowers and leaves runs inside the border, which is a rich blue carrying rosettes and palmettes in cream and pink. Thin guard bands with tiny geometric marks frame the main band on both sides. Pile runs low in spots across the face, and the red reads paler where the weave shows. The dense drawing keeps the pink and blue balanced against the cream. At 5'9" by 9'1", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.

About Isparta rugs

By 1909 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers, the big carpet export company of the day, had workshops in five places, and Isparta was one of them. The workshops of Isparta, in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, spent the twentieth century weaving Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. That palette runs softer and chalkier, favoring cream and rose over the deep madder of Persia. As town rugs rather than tribal ones, they keep an orderly drawing, and the field usually reads calm from across a room. This piece maintains that structured layout, featuring a distinct diamond medallion and curling foliage placed over the pale ground. These hues stay within that soft range, choosing muted pink and steel blue over bold primary shades.

The Craft

Made entirely by hand.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.

The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
