Scrolling vines with small palmettes and rosettes make this a charming rug. Across an ivory field, delicate scrolling vines carry small palmettes and rosettes in rose and slate blue. The main border runs rose, filled with lovely cream flower heads and blue leaves inside a narrow guard stripe. A light antique wash that softened the colors without reaching the drawing leaves the vine work clear. The pile has worn low in places. Rose and blue notes sit against the light ground. At 4'4" by 8'2", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Isparta rugs
The largest carpet exchange in Turkey in its day was the Isparta Carpet Palace. Isparta lies in the lake country of southwestern Turkey, where workshops through the twentieth century wove Persian-influenced floral designs in a distinctly Turkish palette. The palette is chalkier and softer, with more cream and rose than the deep madder of Persia. These are town rugs, not tribal ones, so the drawing is orderly and the field tends to read calm from across a room. This piece holds that pale ivory base and the structured floral scroll. The rose and slate blue notes remain gentle on the light field, and the rose edge surrounds the middle without heavy contrast.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
