A large muted pink diamond holds a cream medallion in this remarkable rug. On a slate navy ground, a large muted pink diamond holds a cream medallion with a dark brown geometric core. Small cream pendants extend from the top and base of this middle form into the open pink ground. Handsome navy corner pieces carry lovely branching vines with cream flower heads on angular stems. The main border runs gray beige, carrying a repeating geometric pattern in navy and muted pink. Narrow guard stripes in navy and gray beige edge the design on both sides. The pile is full across the face. The soft pink and slate tones stay gentle underfoot. At 4'4" by 8'1", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Anatolian rugs
The carpets called “Holbein” were woven in Anatolia as early as the 14th century and became popular in Europe from the 15th century on. So many western Anatolian carpets shipped to Europe in the 1600s and 1700s were given to churches in Romania and Hungary that they became known as “Transylvanian” carpets. Anatolian is the broad name for the village weaving of the Turkish interior, and it covers a lot of ground. The shared character is geometry over floral drawing, and a palette that reads warmer and chalkier than Persian work: cream, rose, soft green, madder. These were house rugs, woven to be used. This rug keeps that geometric spirit in its stepped center and angular corner pieces. The prominent central figure gives the format a clear focus rather than an all-over repeat.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
