1974 · 5'1" x 7'9" Persian Sabzevar Area Rug

An eight-lobed medallion outlined in slate blue marks the center of this lovely rug. Over a beige field, scrolling vines carry delicate brown blossoms on slate blue stems with small slate blue leaves across the open ground. A large eight-lobed medallion sits at the center, outlined in slate blue, with slate blue and muted pink oval pendants along the vertical axis. Slate blue spandrels with pink flourishes anchor the four corners, crowded with curling vines and rosettes. The main border runs gray beige, set with a repeating chain of small brown flowers. Narrow guard stripes in beige and slate blue run along each side of the border. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. The pile is low here and there across the field. The beige ground gives the slate blue forms room to breathe. At 5'1" by 7'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
