Black boteh motifs on a deep red field make this an amazing rug. On a deep red field, small black boteh motifs with pink and cream centers repeat in tight diagonal rows, each one a paisley leaf-drop. No central medallion sits in the field; the all-over pattern runs from end to end. The field meets the border at each corner, and no spandrels fill the angles. Angular geometric forms in red and near-black fill the wide cream border. A near-black zigzag band and a pink chain band frame the border on both sides. The pile is full. The warm red and cream tones form a narrow line made for a hallway. At 3'7" by 10'8", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Arak rugs
By 1913 Arak, then called Sultanabad, had become the center of a great rug industry controlled by Europeans and Americans. Its dyes were said to have perhaps the most extensive color scheme in Persia. Arak in central Persia, known historically as Sultanabad, was the center of one of the largest weaving districts in the country. The surrounding villages supplied the market under their own names, and the shared character is an all-over floral field and a restrained palette. This runner holds that continuous layout and a narrow range of colors. The boteh repeat densely across the red ground, and the cream border holds angular geometric forms.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
