The medallion of this amazing rug is a cream quatrefoil with rose petals. On a burgundy field, small floral sprays in dusty rose and pale blue scatter around a central motif. The medallion is a cream quatrefoil with rose petals and a teal center. Teal and pale blue corner pieces with geometric forms sit at the four corners of the field. A beautiful cream main border carries a vine of small blossoms, framed by navy guard stripes with red accents. The pile is full across the face and borders. The burgundy ground warms a corner without crowding it. At 2'2" by 2'6", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Hamedan was the capital of the Seljuq sultans for 50 years, from the second half of the 12th century. The Mongols destroyed Hamedan about 1220 and Timur sacked it in 1386, and the city was partly restored in the 17th century. Hamedan is a weaving city and region in western Persia, and for generations hundreds of villages around it have sent rugs to its markets. This piece keeps the dense floral scatter and the red ground found in that weaving. Its nearly square shape gathers the whole drawing into one compact frame.

Shipping is free and fully insured in the US and Canada. To the UK, the European Union, Australia and New Zealand we ship fully insured, with rates calculated at checkout. Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
