Dense violet and blue floral forms make up the central medallion of this charming rug. Across a salmon field, pretty scrolling vines and small blossoms in cream and pale green surround a central medallion. The medallion is a lobed oval of dense violet and blue floral forms with short pendants at the top and bottom. Dainty curling floral sprays fill the corners of the field. An indigo main border carries floral and geometric motifs in cream and pink. The pile is low in places across the field. The dense drawing holds the violet and salmon together in one warm tone. At 5'7" by 9'9", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Manisa rugs
By April 1909 the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers had set up agencies in the carpet towns of western Anatolia, among them Manisa, Gordes, Demirci and Kula. In Demirci, a district of Manisa, almost every household has been known to keep a carpet loom. Manisa sits inland from the Aegean coast, and its weavers worked between two traditions. A single rug can hold the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops. This piece shows that mix, with a curving floral field inside a patterned border. The salmon ground and indigo border read as two strong, warm notes.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
