A scalloped medallion in violet and blue rests on the dusty rose field of this lovely rug. On a dusty rose field, a gorgeous scalloped medallion in violet and blue, edged in cream and teal, holds a cream core with a blue cross at its center. Small cream pendants sit above and below it. Large cream scrolls lined in violet fill the four corners, with patches of blue and teal behind them. The main border is violet, carrying graceful rosettes and stepped motifs in rose, blue and teal. Narrow guard stripes in teal, rose and cream edge it on both sides. The pile is low in places across the field and fuller in the border. It suits a room that wants warmth, and the dusty rose eases the cool violet and blue. At 6'4" by 10'2", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.

About Manisa rugs
The Metropolitan Museum of Art notes that the workshops of Gordes, a Manisa town, were particularly active in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Since 1997 its hand-woven carpets have carried a protected geographical mark. Manisa lies inland from the Aegean coast, and its weaving sits between two traditions. The geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops meet in the same rug. This rug gives the medallion the lead, with cream scrolls closing each corner, and violet and blue run through both medallion and border. Manisa pieces were made for houses rather than for export, so the sizes are practical and the drawing is unfussy.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
