About this rug

A lobed diamond outlined in blue sits at the center of this charming rug. Over a dusty rose field, graceful curling vines and small blossoms in slate blue and pale green surround a central figure. The center holds a handsome lobed diamond shape outlined in blue, with a cream core and small blue pendants above and below. A shaped panel of pink ground is cut off at each end by cream corner pieces holding scrolling leaves. A wide slate blue border surrounds the field, filled with cream rosettes and green leaves. A narrow guard band in pale green and ivory runs inside it. A light antique wash has eased the colors and left the drawing clear. It suits a room that needs warmth, as the dusty pink and the blue sit easily together. At 5'10" by 9'5", it fits a bedroom beside the bed, a study under a desk, or a small sitting area.

Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.

About Manisa rugs

The future Suleiman the Magnificent governed Manisa as a young prince for about seven years, until he became sultan in 1520. In 1544 he sent his own son, Prince Selim, to govern the city, a posting that had come to mark a prince as a candidate for the throne. Manisa sits inland from the Aegean coast, and its weavers worked between two traditions. A single rug can hold the geometric medallions of Anatolian village work and the softer floral borders of the western workshops. This piece keeps that mix, with a structured central diamond set against loose, scrolling vines in the field. The palette leans warm and faded, matching the practical sizes made for houses rather than export.

The Craft

Made entirely by hand.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.

The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.

Genuinely vintage

Hand-knotted decades ago, never machine-made.
