A stepped navy medallion makes this a wonderful rug. Across a rust field, fine vines and small blossoms in cream, olive and dark brown fill the space around a central figure. A stepped navy medallion sits at the center, holding a cream core with a red rosette inside. Gorgeous cream spandrels occupy the four corners, each filled with charming curling leaves and flower heads that mirror the medallion’s palette. The main border is navy, carrying large palmettes and floral sprays in cream, rust and gold. Narrow guard stripes in camel and red edge the border on either side. Full pile covers the field and both borders. It anchors a sitting area, and the cream corners lighten the rust ground. At 6'9" by 9'10", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Tabriz rugs
Isma’il, the first Safavid shah, was crowned in Tabriz in 1501. Medallion carpet designs of the 16th century are usually associated with Tabriz, then the Safavid capital and the seat of the royal design workshops. Tabriz in northwestern Persia has a city workshop tradition, and the discipline of the drawing shows it. Medallions sit properly centered, borders turn cleanly at the corners, and the vine scrolls follow a plan laid out in full before weaving began. This rug keeps that order, with a centered medallion and a border that turns precisely at every corner. Rather than the ivory and gray beige grounds many workshops used, this rug sticks to rust and navy.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
