Brown floral sprays run in a column down the rose field of this lovely runner. The rose field holds a column of charming brown floral sprays and small teal touches. A gorgeous central diamond medallion holds a rosette core, with lobed pendants reaching toward the top and bottom. Gray brown vine forms sit at the field ends. A gray brown border runs around it, set with scrolling leaves. A few patches of pile have worn thin, with pale dots marking the low spots. A light antique wash softened the colors but kept the drawing. It grounds a narrow passage, keeping the rose and sage subdued. At 2' by 6'7", it fits an entry, a hallway corner or the space beside a bed.
Every rug we sell is one of a kind, and this is the only one like it. It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Cyrus the Great took Ecbatana, the ancient city under Hamedan, in 550 BCE, and Alexander the Great took it in 330 BCE. Walter Hawley, writing on rugs in 1913, noted that old Hamedan runners sometimes ran twenty feet or more in length. Hamedan is a city and weaving region in western Persia, and villages around it have sent rugs to its markets for generations. Long narrow formats were woven for the corridors of local houses. This rug keeps that long format and a central medallion layout. The floral drawing runs the full length in soft brown and sage against the rose ground.

Returns & exchangesMade entirely by hand.
Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
