A large star medallion worked in red and near-black makes this a lovely rug. Scrolling vines, palmettes and small rosettes in red, brown, olive and near-black crowd the ivory field. A large star medallion sits at the center, worked in red and near-black with a tan ring and a small cream core, with red lozenges above and below. Red spandrels with near-black outlines fill the four field corners. The wide main border is red, carrying palmettes and flower heads in tan, olive and cream on charming winding near-black stems. Two tan guard stripes and a near-black band with small red and cream marks flank the border. Pile has thinned in a few patches of the field, and the border keeps full pile. The red border frames the pale ground in a bright room. At 6'7" by 9'7", it fits a living room with the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug, or beside a queen bed.
