The navy field is crossed by a lovely lattice of red diamonds and X-shaped joints. Navy fills the field, crossed by a lattice of red diamonds and X-shaped joints, with delicate rosettes in red and pink set along it. Charming hooked leaves and small checkered squares in cream and pink fill the open ground between the rosettes. The pattern repeats down the runner with no center figure and no corner pieces. The border is a bright red band holding a chain of small florets inside pointed lozenges, flanked by brown bands of small flowers and pink guard stripes. Across a stretch of the upper field the navy pile has worn low and a shade lighter. It brings a deep navy floor to a passage, warmed by the red frame, with pink and cream catching the eye. At 3'7" by 11'6", it fits a hallway or the space along the side of a bed.

It is hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, professionally washed and cleaned before it reaches you, and shipped folded and fully insured. Age-related wear and the small inconsistencies of a handmade weave are part of what these rugs are.
About Hamedan rugs
Several generations ago many rugs from the villages around Hamedan were traded through Mosul, and so were known as Mosul rugs. Walter Hawley, writing on rugs in 1913, noted that old Hamedan runners sometimes ran twenty feet or more in length. Hundreds of villages around the city have been sending rugs to its markets for generations. Long narrow formats are a Hamedan specialty, woven for the corridors of local houses, which is why so many of the best vintage runners come from here. This one follows that purpose closely: a slim runner with a navy field and a bright red frame, made to line a passage. The small pink and cream squares scattered through the lattice are flashes of light on the dark ground.

Orders are processed and shipped within one to four days and most arrive within about ten days, sometimes as fast as three depending on your location, carefully wrapped, with tracking sent the moment your rug leaves us.

Every knot in this rug was tied by hand, one at a time, on an upright loom. A piece like this is the work of two or three weavers sitting side by side for months, wool worked row by row into a pattern carried from memory, its colors softened by decades of light and use. Nothing about it was quick, and no two are ever the same.
The kind of thing that only gets better with age, and quietly passes from one home to the next.
